Regular expression metacharacters in Java

For example, the regular expression pattern “ca*t” matches strings like “ct”, “cat”, “caaaat”, but not “cst”.

  3. Plus (+) Metacharacter: The plus metacharacter represents one or more occurrences of the preceding character or group. It matches one or more occurrences of the character or group that precedes it. For example, the regular expression pattern “ca+t” matches strings like “cat”, “caaat”, but not “ct” or “cst”.

  4. Question Mark (?) Metacharacter: The question mark metacharacter represents zero or one occurrence of the preceding character or group. It matches zero or one occurrence of the character or group that precedes it. For example, the regular expression pattern “colou?r” matches both “color” and “colour”.

  5. **Pipe ( ) Metacharacter:**
    The pipe metacharacter represents an alteration, allowing a choice between multiple patterns. It matches either the pattern on its left or the pattern on its right. For example, the regular expression pattern “apple banana” matches either “apple” or “banana”.
