How to set Java PATH and CLASSPATH in an IBM Cloud Function

When working with Java code in an IBM Cloud Function, you may need to set the Java PATH and CLASSPATH to ensure that your code can access the required libraries and dependencies. In this blog post, we will walk you through the process of setting the Java PATH and CLASSPATH for an IBM Cloud Function.

Setting the Java PATH

Log in to your IBM Cloud account and navigate to the Cloud Functions service.
Select the specific function for which you want to set the Java PATH.
Click on the “Runtime” tab.
Under the “Configuration” section, locate the “Environment Variables” option and click on “Add”.
In the “Key” field, enter JAVA_PATH. In the “Value” field, enter the path to your Java installation directory.

Example:

Key: JAVA_PATH
Value: /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64
```
Save the changes and redeploy your function.

Setting the Java CLASSPATH

Follow the steps above to navigate to the specific function and access the “Runtime” tab.
Under the “Configuration” section, locate the “Environment Variables” option and click on “Add”.
In the “Key” field, enter JAVA_CLASSPATH. In the “Value” field, enter the path to your Java libraries and dependencies.

Example:

Value: /path/to/lib1.jar:/path/to/lib2.jar
```
Note: Separate multiple paths with a colon (“:”) on UNIX-like systems or a semicolon (“;”) on Windows systems.
Save the changes and redeploy your function.

Your Java PATH and CLASSPATH have now been set for your IBM Cloud Function. The function runtime will now be able to locate the Java installation directory and the required libraries and dependencies.
